ADIDAS x D.ON. ISSUE #7

A sneaker drop with a cherry on top.

For the first Cleveland Cavaliers’ NBA playoff game with the Indiana Pacers, adidas Basketball tapped us to transform a corner of the Rocket Arena concourse into Donovan Mitchell’s nICE CREAM SHOP – a fully branded retail activation serving up early access to the D.O.N. Issue #7. Inspired by Donovan’s “nice guy” energy and the shoe’s bright, ice cream-coded colorway, the space blended sneaker culture with sweet summer vibes. Fans stepped inside for the drop, the drip, and a free scoop on the side.

Opportunity
With Donovan Mitchell headlining the playoffs and the D.O.N. Issue #7 dropping in a bold, sweet, sherbert-like colorway, we saw a chance to create a retail moment that felt as unique as the player himself, on and off the court. Matching the energy of the moment, the style of the shoe, and the personality of the icon himself was an opportunity to turn sneaker shopping into a highly shareable, PR-worthy, sensory experience that got people scooping up product.
Insight
For younger fans, sneaker drops aren’t just about performance, they’re about experience. To earn their attention, you have to do more than show up. You have to show out. Donovan’s personality gave us a lane. Kind off the court, ruthless on it. So we built a space that held both truths, playful, bold, and built to get fans talking. Because if you're gonna stand in line for a pair of kicks, it better feel like a reward.
Approach
We turned the NBA Playoffs drop into a pop-up worth waiting for. Oversized ice cream props, neon signage, color-drenched walls, and sneaker displays inside vintage-style freezers turned the arena concourse into a retail daydream. Fans could try on the new D.O.N. Issue #7, pose for a photo in front of a giant cone, and walk away with a limited-edition poster and sticker sheet, all while scooping up their free ice cream on the way out. Even the BA uniforms got the treatment, styled like nICE CREAM attendants to make the world feel complete.
Result
The early-release event sold through product before tipoff.
The space pulled constant foot traffic, sparked a wave of social content, and turned a product drop into a full-on playoff experience.
